Description:
Scarce and highly sought after Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 SUPER GRADE in powerful .375 H&H Magnum caliber. S/N 169492 with matching scribed bolt made in 1950. This particular rifle is one of the very last ever produced with an undrilled rear receiver bridge. Rule's excellent reference on the Model 70 discusses the latest undrilled example he ever studied as S/N 169441 which was 51 units prior to this rifle. The overall condition is excellent. The original Blueing is deep, dark, and even but I am rating 96% due to some scattered surface freckeling. Varnish is 97% with some very minor marks and a light scratch on fore end tip. The gun looks virtually new inside, without ANY cracks, not even the thin bridge of wood between trigger and mag mortises which is "always" cracked! The bolt face also looks about unfired beyond factory test. All Super Grade components are genuine and present including Redfield front sight, SG stamped floorplate, SG swivels, etc. The solid red recoil pad is factory issue as on all 375s, still soft and undistorted at the heel. The 6W two leaf flip up rear sight is like new with a strong spring and positive stop. The 25" barrel has an excellent bore and all mechanical functions are smooth and correct. For over 100 years and counting, the 375 H&H has had no peer when it comes to hunting large and dangerous game. It is repeatedly voted the #1 all around caliber choice of Professional Hunters, Guides, and dangerous game cullers by an overwhelming margin. I have carried one most of my 36 years of guiding Grizzly hunters here in Alaska and it has delivered jaw dropping performance literally hundreds of times without fail. The greatest sporting rifle ever made, chambered in the greatest large and dangerous game caliber ever made is a winning combination, and THIS rifle has it all!
