Description:
#4974 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x45COLT, 169XXX range (1896), fine bore and action. The metal is VERY nice overall for its age and is certainly well above average for what is basically a 123 year old no-finish gun. Aside of just having some light peppery pitting (being scattered mostly on the triggerbow and a little on the frame,) it has almost no pitting or serious wear anywhere else and consequently, the overall look is well above what one usually sees for an old cowboy Colt. However, in MY opinion, this antique Colt revolver probably has had some up-grading over its lifetime with having an even brown patina coloring applied, the hammer being period replaced with the post-1906 style checked hammer, and the standard hard rubber grips replaced with handsome one-piece raised carved American “Eagle & Shield” aged ivory grips. These grips look REAL good, but do not fit all that well and I'm also pretty sure that these may not be real solid ivory, but some type of ivory dust and polymer reproduction grips. If they were real ivory, these would very easily be a $2500-$3000 pair of grips just by themselves!! There are a lot of photos to this VERY desirable early Civilian S/A, so if they all don’t load (there are about 20 in all), just email me and I will forward them to you by return email. This is a real opportunity to own a really impressive looking antique weapon from the Wild West frontier period …and also one of the fastest value appreciators in the antique gun field. VG/VG+ $3395
