We are rightfully proud to offer this fine example of a Allen and Wheelock large frame Army revolver. Made in the year of our Lord 1861, this one is likely a veteran of the Civil War, as 536 were purchased by the Union at that time. This one is number 351, which appears on all the major parts. It is interesting to note that these revolvers bear no martial markings, as they were bought in the open market and quickly pressed into service. This wheel gun is a 6 shot fitted with a 7 1/2 inch barrel. It is one of the few guns you will find where the manufacturer cuts off the barrel address and patent dates on every one. Another unusual feature is the pivoting trigger guard that operates a silky smooth rack and pinion loading ram. The action works well, and the hammer spring is quite stout. All the nipples are in good order, and the bore is fairly good considering the nearly 160 year age. The walnut grip does show some wear, but is a pleasure to hold. These historic wheel guns usually sell for about 3000 or more dollars, but I will list this one for much less. If you have been looking for a good condition, limited production Civil War era revolver, then look no further. SOLD Antique: Yes |
