Description:
Barrel has been shortened to a more desirable 24 inches and retains a good amount of blue. Shows a few scratches and thinning. The frame has strong traces of faded case colors on the sides and in protected areas. Straight grip walnut stock is in good condition and has been shortened to a LOP of 12 1/2 inches. Forend has been shortened as well to 13 inches. Good markings and lots of inspector stamps. A cartouche is stamped on the left side of the wrist. Left side of the receiver is marked “PEABODY’S PAT. / JULY 22, 1862 / MAN’F’D BY / PROVIDENCE TOOL CO. / PROV. R. I.”. The top of the receiver and barrel are stamped with “Crown / V” proofs.The top of the hammer spur has been bobbed. Sights include a globe front sight with no insert added and the original leaf rear sight. Strong lock and good mechanics. Excellent bright shiny bore. Sling swivels. An interesting handy little rifle!
