The 24"" round side by side 53 caliber (land to land measurement; they are marked 32 bore with crown over V proofs) barrels have fine rifled bores. The barrels have a patent breech. They have a smooth blue/brown patina. The barrel is marked on the top rib GEORGE H. DAW followed further on by 57 THREADNEEDLE ST. LONDON. The Jacobs type bayonet lug has been removed. This rifle features a standard blade front sight and multiple Jacobs rifle type rear sights starting with a fixed leaf that is most likely graduated for 50 yards. This is followed by three folding leaves graduated for 150, 250, and 400 yards. Finally, the five-inch ladder sight is graduated from 200 to 1800 yards! The barrels and stock are numbered 4183. The back action locks are each marked G.H. DAW. They, and the hammers, have a smooth gray/brown patina. The hammer screws are bright and appear to be replacements. The buttplate is a smooth gray/brown and the triggerguard is blue/brown. The stock is good with use dents and dings and small areas of missing wood along the barrel. There is no patchbox. This rifle is equipped with a forward sling swivel and a stock swivel eye. The action functions correctly. This is a very nice example of a percussion commercial Jacobs type double rifle. Don't miss it! SOLD Antique: Yes |
