This is the first model Derringer manufactured from 1873 to 1879 marked on the barrel rib top “DERRINGER PHILADA. PATs. JUNE 3. 1873" with an approximate production of 400 guns. In overall near excellent condition with much of the silver coating remaining over the brass frame which can be seen along the high edges and top sides of the frame with the iron barrel and cylinder now a pleasing dark brown with crisp lettering. The bird's-head butt walnut grips are excellent with an old, heavy varnish coating that has some light scratches and other use marks. There appears to be a very fine crack in the frame below the retaining pin just forward of the trigger. The gun locks up tight when cocked and the cylinder advances properly with some very light lateral play in the barrel. A seldom seen first model Derringer revolver.
