Description:
There were only 5,002 1898 original carbines made, this is not one of them. Francis Bannerman and W. Stokes Kirk were surplus merchants that assembled Krag rifles and carbines from surplus parts and are not considered completely accurate representatives if issue models. I believe this gun is one of those carbines. The information I base this on is found in a book by Lt. Col, USAR Ret. William S. Brophy "the KRAG RIFLE" in Section II - Bannerman, W. Stokes Kirk starting on page 177. The barrel is 22", the front sight is that of a 1903 rifle. Has sling swivels. Wood is in good condition overall with inspectors marks. Barrel retains about 90% blue turning dark. Top wood has a minor crack. This is a fine rifle.
