Description:

John Rigby & Co, 72 St. James's, London 12 Gauge sidelock shotgun sold in 1887 to Knut Ljunglof of Stockholm, Sweden. Extractor barrels are 27 3/4" steel without choke. Chambers are 2 3/4". Bores measure .734 on the right and .733 on the left. Minimum wall thickness of .032 right and left. The barrels have been nitro reproofed at 12-70 & 850 BAR. Bores are excellent. This fine vintage gun was built on a W.C. Scott crystal indicator sidelock action. Stocked in extremely nice, near exhibition, English Walnut with dark mineral streaking. LOP is 13 7/8" to a horn buttplate with engraved screws and widows peak.  Weight is 6lb 9oz  Vacant stock oval in the bottom line of the stock..  DAC-1 1/2"  DAH-2 1/2"  Neutral cast.  6lb 9oz

This high quality vintager remains in very nice overall condition with all engraving and barrel inscription sharp and crisp. Receivere retains traces of case color. Barrel blue remains at 98%. Checkering remains at  96%  Stock finish remains at 90%  It is cased in its original leather trunk case with trade label, snap caps, oil bottle, cleaning rod, brush , and mop. The new owner would want to consider the installation of Briley thin wall chokes to increase this guns versatility. This piece has been well cared for over its 134 years and with care will last another 134 years and multiple generations. A great vintager by one of England's most respected makers and with great dimensions and condition.

The original owner of this gun, Mr. Knut Frederik Ljunglof, was a wealthy Swedish snuff manufacturer whose fortune amounted to about 32 million in 2015 dollars. He was known as the "Snus King".  His biography and Rigby records included.
