Description:
This is a rare Bacon Mfg. Co..38 Rimfire Navy Revolver made in the early 1860's. This is the First Type and only about 400 were made. This one was one of the first made being serial number 11. That number appears on the cylinder, under the barrel , and on the loading lever. The Bacon maker name and address is clearly stamped on the top barrel flat. Overall the revolver is in near fine condition. It has been nickel plated at some point and that finish is excellent. The revolver does not show a lot of use. The grips are excellent. The bore looks clean. The action is crisp. Bacon hoped to secure Government contracts for this revolver and the they were actually tested by the Navy in 1864 but no contracts are known. This is considered a secondary martial sidearm and was very popular as a private purchase item because of the simplistic design. You will not find another find another in this condition for this price anywhere.
