Here we present an antique Flintlock Blunderbuss Pistol of European origin and made circa the late-1700s. The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel flared at the muzzle and frequently throughout the entire bore and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern-day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was effective only at short range, lacking accuracy at long range. A blunderbuss in handgun form was called a Dragon, and it is from this that the term “Dragoon” evolved. The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy, and devastating weapon at close range. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for naval boarding or defending vessels. While blunderbusses are generally seen in a shoulder-fired platform, pistols were made as well. Not only did this provide the opportunity to have a shotgun style pistol, the expansive bell of the muzzle would have made this an even more intimidating weapon to the guy at the wrong end. One can imagine this being a weapon for the pirate or more upstanding brand of seaman. This one features wire inlays throughout. The barrel begins octagonally and transitions to round with the obvious flare at the muzzle. The condition is good. The action is strong. The bore is in good shape. The splits around the front barrel pin are stable, and the barrel remains secure. Replacement hammer screw works just fine. A very neat and unique piece of weaponry! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 6 inches. Caliber: Approximately .54 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
