Description:
LAYAWAY?....SN 8738....69 cal, 34" round barrel with a bright excellent bore. This is an excellent example of these interesting large caliber "Plymouth Rifles", the metal surfaces remaining mostly bright showing some scattered mild gray freckling and a few sparsely scattered spots of minor lightly cleaned pinprick pitting. All markings are intact and clear with 1864 date, proofs and inspector markings at the breech and the second style lockplate also dated 1864 with "(Federal Eagle) / U.S." in the center and "WHITNEY-VILLE". The smooth walnut stock remains in excellent condition showing a few scattered light dings, handling marks and strong arsenal oil finish. The left flat retains a mostly crisp "FCW" inspector's cartouche. All of the appropriate hardware remains intact and the lock functions crisply.
