Description:
***SSALE PENDING***LAYAWAY?.....French Model 1777 Corrected AN IX Dragoon Musket by Charleville..."Corrected" ://collections.royalarmouries/battle-of-waterloo/arms-and-armour/type/rac-narrative-557.html, refers to an upgrade or newer "Type" since the original production of the 1777..... A .69 cal, 40 1/2" barrel with a moderately oxidized bore. This is a very handsome musket of the "corrected" pattern with slightly shorter barrel length of 40 1/2"; it remains in the original flint and interestingly the ramrod of all things is U.S. surcharged. The metal surfaces have toned to a pleasant deep brown patina with strong antique brown lacquer along the barrel that has taken on an attractive dark tone. The ramrod is a similar tone and has certainly been with this musket for quite some time, as noted earlier it has a softened but completely legible "US" stamped near the head. The lockplate is a more mottled silvery gray patina and the Charleville arsenal markings remain completely intact and legible. The inside of the lockplate is stamped "TO" along with nice inspector stamps on the various components, the parts that are marked with an assembly code are matching and the fit of the lockplate is excellent. The brass hardware has toned to a lovely ocher patina showing some scattered light handling marks, the trigger guard is a little loose and many of the brass components retaining strong French inspector stamps and the sideplate marked "FPV". The smooth walnut stock with concave cheekpiece is really quite nice and remains in very fine condition showing a couple very minor thin drying cracks here and there, scattered light dings and handling marks. There are some light abrasions along the comb and an interesting series of seven old notches also along the comb. The lock is strong and seems to function well mechanically. This is a wonderful honest musket with lots of eye appeal, perhaps present in this country during the War of 1812....2nd firearm ships FREE with this one!!!....WITH CONFIDENCE! S/H $45 (48 STATES). Thanks!....Greg a77-79, zz8-18
