Description:
The K98 model by the BSW was only produced for a little over two years (1937-39). The top of the receiver is marked "BSW/1938," and the left receiver side wall is marked "MOD 98". The right side of the receiver is marked with a C and three eagle Waffenamt firing proofs (with no Waffenamt number). The barrel was actually manufactured by the Steyr factory and carries the code "660/134/39". It is correctly stamped with a single "WaA623" Waffenamt behind the barrel markings, and it has been numbered "9035/a" with a slightly different set of number stamps, probably by the Steyr factory. The barrel also carries a single eagle firing proof on the left side. The various other parts carry the correct "eagle/4" Waffenamt and serial number stamps from the BSW factory. The stock is marked with a faint "eagle/H" Heers proof on the right side below the takedown washer (also stamped "eagle/4") and a double "eagle/4" Waffenamt in the pistol grip area and on the right side. The stock has been restamped with serial number "9035/a" over the original same serial number; however, in a different style number stamp (same as the barrel number with a flat top number 3) than originally applied, indicating it was either originally assembled by or maybe reworked by the Steyr factory. It has all original matching numbered parts (except the floorplate which has two number sets from the BSW factory). There is a duffle bag cut directly behind the lower barrel band which shows an old nice repair. Fitted with an original WWII leather sling. Fine with 60% plus original blue finish overall, even wear visible on all the exposed metal surfaces, and more thinning/blue loss on the receiver and trigger guard/floorplate area. The stock and handguard are very good with nice original dark brown finish overall showing numerous light handling marks, pressure dents and scratches, and a slightly heavier divot on the right side below the stock washer. The markings and proofs are visible but faint in some instances. A very scarce early pre-WWII German K98 rifle made by the BSW factory. None
