Description:
Belgium FN 49 - Luxembourg - First Contract Production
Fabrique National, Model 1949, Rifle.  FN 1949, Semi-Automatic 30:06 Rifle.  Produced in 1950/51.   Luxembourg was the 4th country to order the SAFN. Taking possession, starting in May 1951. Serial # records, and the fact that this rifle does not have stock lug.  Which indicates tha it is a First Contract rifle.  The stock lug was included on the second contract. Second contract rifles also have the serial number stamped on the wrist of the stock. This rifle does not.
Luxembourg was the fourth country to order the SAFN 1949 rifles, with the first order placed on October 4, 1950 and taking possession of the first 1,500 rifles by May 5, 1951. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg would eventually purchase a total of 6,306 rifles.  This rifle is one of the first 1500 ordered.  This was one of my motivations to purchase this firearm.   (No import stamps)
It was, purchased directly from a private party in 1973.   Since then, it has always been displayed in a temperature / humidity-controlled environment.  Only lightly cleaned and oiled by me.  Fired between 10 and 20 rounds once, in the last 46 years.
To confirm accuracy/condition.
Overall: In very good condition.  Cartouche on the underside is clear and easy to ready. All stampings are crisp and easy to identify. There is some oil build / dust up in the crevasses and tight areas. To obtain as much originality possible. I was not big on “over-cleaning”.     Receiver is stamped AL  for use with the Armee Luxembourg (the National Military of  Luxembourg).  There are two small marks (photos included) on the left side under the early serial number 17XX on the barrel. Matching the receiver number.  The right side of receiver is clearly marked “Fabrique Nationale D’Armes _Hersstal Belgique”. It has all of the correct original productions. From graduated rear sight to actions, clip, etc.   Metal and Wood are in excellent condition.
The Metal finish has the correct black stoving finish.  Retains (approx.) 90% +, of the original finish.  Just showing some scattered slight flaking.  Little wear, mostly on the sharp edges.  The action is tight and in excellent cosmetic condition.  The bore has very good rifling / groves.  No frost spots observable, after careful inspection. Which could be an issue with some FN’s?  But not this one. Receiver is very original. Nice hardwood stock and handguard, rich aged color tone, with some minor wear.  Per above:  Moderate linseed oil build-up.  No deep dents or major scratches.  The walnut pistol grip stock handguard, canvas sling, and grooved forearm, same.
Applies to all listings
The entire collection was professionally removed from wood and inspected for condition.  Then cleaned, lubricated and reassembled.  By a very experienced Gunsmith.   All received a clean bill of health from a condition stand point. Better than appropriate, for the age.
They have only been lightly cleaned and oiled by me. Before and since.  The entire collection has never out of a temperature-humidity, controlled environment. Since the purchased date. Most post 1920 guns have been fired by a qualified gunsmith or range master.  For reliability, functionality and safety confirmation.  I have fired a few.  All <200 rounds.
All firearms that are equipped for them have as-issued correct Bayonet and Scabbards, in very good condition. Most have (sure looks like) as issued: Slings, clips and / or removable magazines. And some higher Mag loads, are available. All have the expected stampings and / or cartouches.
Except where noted in the individual listings. There are no reproduction replacement parts in this collection!   Some Government Arsenal Reconditions are included. And there are clear markings of this reconditioning. Again, per individual listing.

All firearms are offered as collector’s items only.  Seller does not accept responsibility as to the shooting safety or reliability of any firearm.  A thorough inspection. should be conducted by an experienced, reliable gunsmith / rangemaster Before even considering firing any gun.
