Mod., sunken rib engraved "J. Purdey & Sons, Audley House, South Audley Street, London, England", original 7/8 oz. nitro proof, ejectors, striped barrel face, "2" Case" in gold on bottom rib under forend, tube nos. "62356" and "62357" on bottom lug, patented Beasley self opening bar action sidelock engraved in Purdey's house rose and scroll pattern, bottom of action engraved "J. Purdey & Sons, London, England", disc-set strikers, cocking indicators, automatic safety with "SAFE" in gold inlay, nicely figured English walnut stock 14 1/2" LOP over a leather covered pad, straight grip with long trigger guard extension, splinter forend with A&D push button release, drop points, vacant stock oval, 1 5/8" DAC x 2 3/16" DAH, 1/4" cast off, balance point just ahead of the hinge pin on the leading edge of the action. Excellent condition gun with excellent  bores, bores measure as they left Purdey at .729 right and .729 left, minimum barrel wall thickness is .024 right and .024 left, gun is tight and on face and in proof, barrels remain most of an older reblue with a few light marks, wood shows only very minor handling marks, lock plates have about 80% case colors with bottom of action about 10%, safety shows wear to nitre blue on bottom half as it should.  This fine between the wars Purdey comes in it's original lightweight leather motor case with the original leather maker's label and gun card in top lid, exterior lip leather stamped "James Purdey & Sons Ltd" and "Made in England", exterior leather under latch stamped "The Purdey Lightweight, Regd. No. 727356".  These 2" chambered 12 bores were predominately made in the decade leading up to WWII with very few ever made after the war.  Made on 20 bore actions, they were very lightweight and fast handling.  Very few were made by London makers with most being boxlocks from the Birmingham trade.  2 inch chambered sidelock guns from Purdey are very uncommon and difficult to find on the market.
