Description:
Sale Pending !

This US Springfield Armory M - 1903 was an early mfg about 1903 - 5 w/the punch marks locate at the bottom of the recei, ver. This was to indicate that it was checked for  a noted field problem that some receiver's would overheat w/o heat treatment and would be possibly too brittle. I refer to "The Model 1903 Springfield Rifle and It's Variation published by Noth Cape Publications page 198. In it the proedure for checking these low number receiver's is established. This one has the punch marks at the bottom of the receiver. These markings indicate that this serial number "03" passed the required inspection for acceptance as such could be an issued firearm for service.
It also was rebarreled by the Spg Armory w/ the barrel tip having the markings of "SA 3-39 w/the Flaming Bomb". It obviously wouldn't been rebarreled w/o a thuourgh inspection.. The Bore is absolutley "MINT" w/outstanding rifling and a very shiney presence. A great prospective collectoble and shooter.. The guns metal is a perfect dark ahiney parkerizing and matches throughout. The bolt is the second slight swept back design and works very smoothly. There are no scratches or blenishes anywhere on it . The front sight is an M-1905 2nd variation w/adjustable slot screw. The rear sight is the desired  T -3 w/range adjustments  up to 2850 yards.
The gunstock is I believe an "S" type w/ "V  & the cicled "P" f  - w/the cartouche letters of "R L B" and it has the strengthing cross bolts both forward anf behind and above the magazine plate. The stock  and hanguard are w/o any cracks, dings or blemishes and are a matching nice medium Walnut.. This to me is an excellent choice for both the discerning collector and a great range /target firearm. .It comes w/a correct type convas period sling a T2 Oiler Kit .
I would rate this Springfield M-1903 as an NRA Excellent..
