Description:
ON HOLD. This is a rare second model Plant's Manufacturing front Loading Cup-primed .42 Army Revolver. It is one of only 350 made in this configuration and is among the earliest made. The serial number is 471. This is an all iron frame model. The markings are all legible including the Plant maker mark on the top barrel flat, the Merwin & Bray markings on the left side of the frame, and the patent dates on the cylinder. The revolver is in very good condition. The metal has a uniform gray coloration. The grips are also very good. The ejector mechanism is present. The serial number is stamped on the bottom of the butt strap. The action is crisp. The bore is really nice with a slick look. This is an earlier model and not to be confused with the more prolific brass framed 3rd model. There was about 6000 of those and alot were post Civil War. This one is Civil War years and extremely rare.
