Description:
.75 Cal Antique BRASS BARREL Manstopper FLINTLOCK Pistol from LIEGE 1800s

Impressive 19th Century Sidearm!

Here we present an antique Brass Barrel Flintlock Pistol in .75 caliber, made circa the early-19th Century in Liege. Today we know that Liege is a city in Belgium, perhaps most famous for its centuries of arms manufacture; but at this time, Belgium was not yet independent, and was a parcel of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands until recognized in 1839. Revolution and the push for independence began in earnest in 1830. This pistol features a large .75 caliber bore, large for even military small arm of the period. This would have been one of the last large, smooth bore flintlock pistols to be made before pistols in the percussion firing system and then shortly after cartridge firearms were introduced and adopted.

This piece features light engraving on the steel lock, an octagonal brass barrel in .75 caliber that is about 7 ½ inches in length. The other hardware is of brass. There is a Liege proof on the top barrel flat and what appears to be an “LT” under a crown maker’s mark on the left flat.

The overall condition is very good. The action functions and it will spark. The bore is smooth and in very good shape. The stock is solid all around, with a stable repair at the left side plate. The barrel is Liege proofed at the breech and other visible engravings are sharp. The checkering has worn from the expected handling over time but is still defined. This is a large and impressive pistol with a gaping .75 caliber bore!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 7-3/8 inches.
