Description:
Springfield Model 1842 rifled and sighted Model 1842 musket with matching 1848 dates on lock and barrel. The musket has fine untouched smooth semi bright iron parts. The lock has a fine deep U.S. Eagle and Springfield 1848 date markings showing small spots of uncleaned black tarnish. The surface of the barrel is very smooth unpolished medium bright iron matching the condition of the mounts. The only noticeable pitting on the mounts is on the buttplate. The gun has all original fine screws and original sling swivels and ramrod. The ramrod has the recessed tip for loading the conical .69 Cal mine ball. The rifled bore is really fine with clean and sharp rifling all the way down the barrel. The gun has been fitted with the long range rear sight and new iron front sight afixed to the top strap of the front barrel bnad. The walnut stock is very sound and clean showing very light handling wear and has an oil finish. There are no cracks, chips or breaks in the stock and it has not been sanded. Metal to wood fit of all parts is excellent. There is a light inspection cartouche at the left flat of the stock. The gun comes with a nice matching early pattern bayonet with the square shoulders. It is U.S. marked and smooth uncleaned light aged steel. This is a very solid example of a relatively scarce rifled musket ready for your collection. Buyer pays shipping.
