Description:
ON HOLD. This is one of the more rare Civil War revolvers made in low quantities. It is an Allen & Wheelock .36 Lipfire Navy Revolver. The exact quantity made is approx. 500 c. 1861-62 and they were only produced for a year. This one is serial number 3. That number appears on back of the cylinder, the arbor, the loading gate and the ejector rod. Some of my pics are not that good but the numbers are there. The Allen & Wheelock maker/address/patent info appears on the left upper flat of the barrel. The revolver appears externally complete and not cleaned. The metal has a gray patina. The left side of the revolver looks better than the right as there is some noticeable pitting primarily on the ejector rod housing. I assume it might be from storage in a holster for a long time or just sitting on that side for a long time in less than ideal conditions? The grips are very nice and only show a couple of minor handling dings. Mechanically everything works except the cylinder DOES NOT ADVANCE when the hammer is cocked. Some of the internal parts related to that function are MIA.  If you like to tinker, it may be a good project. If you just need an example to fill in your collection, this is a low cost candidate. This is an extremely rare limited production Civil War revolver and this is just the third one produced. You just don't see them in any condition and this one is priced for the collector on a budget.
