ON HOLD. This is an original example of one of the more rare revolvers purchased by the government during the early Civil War years. It is a B.F. Joslyn .44 Army revolver. The Army purchased around 1100 in late 1861/early 1862. This one is serial number 551 and that number appears on multiple parts. The maker name and patent dates are faint on the top barrel flat. The barrel is 8" long. The revolver has a uniform gray patina with some scattered roughness. Some areas have probably been cleaned at some point primarily the barrel. The grips are very good with only minor dings. The action is crisp. The bore looks good. These revolvers were issued to troops in various cavalry units including the 5th & 6th OH vols., 3rd & 7th IN, 7th KS, 1st MO and 10th MI. As the war progressed, they were replaced by more dependable Colts and Remingtons. I see no Navy markings on this one so I assume this was not one of the 225 delivered to the Navy. This is one of the more rare Civil War revolvers due to its low production number of about 3000 and are usually only found in more advanced collections. It is also the lowest price one of its kind for sale anywhere on the internet!
