ON HOLD. The Beals Navy Revolver was Remington’s first large frame, martial handgun to make it into production. These revolvers were made 1861-1862. It is estimated production was around 15000. The army purchased about 500 direct and they will have martial markings. Flayderman's states these fall in the 13000-15000 serial number range. About 11000 were purchased on the open market by the U.S. government and they will not have martial markings. There were also State purchases and private purchases for Civil War use as well. This is serial number 10784 and does not have martial markings. The Springfield Research info shows s/n# 9989 went to the 10th ILL Vol Cavalry. This revolver appears to be in good condition with a uniform brown patina. The serial number appears under the barrel and bottom of frame as well as the number""784" written lightly on the back of the left grip. The face of each grip is very good and there is some evidence on the bottoms that they were used to hammer a nail or something. The action works well. The bore is good. The tip of one of the nipples is broken off but the base is still there so it should remove with a nipple wrench without drilling, etc.. Lodgewood sells a repro nipple for the original for $6. There are 2 cosmetic repairs. One is on the back top of the frame and on the right side of the frame where the rammer enters. They do not affect the functionality but are present and are shown in the pics. I have no idea when they were done. The Flayderman's range on these is $750-$2250. This is a nice example of a used Civil War revolver at an affordable price. No Civil War percussion revolver collection should be without one.
