It is in absolutely fantastic condition, with even the stock being virtually flawless with zero defects. The rifle has the arsenal-refurbished, parkerized finish. This rifle was originally manufactured around August 1943 and was subsequently refurbished/upgraded to an M1D Sniper configuration at an arsenal, probably for the war in Korea. The M1D sniper barrel is correctly marked "SA-6-52". The rifle also has the integral scope base, which has been fitted with one of the very scarce mid-1960's era "1-Inch" M1D scope mounts with a commercial 4x Weaver 60-B scope. Development of this scope mount began in July 1964 with the issuance of the Purchase Order (No. LX-1095-X) from the American Firearms Corp. to the International Armaments Corp. of Alexandria, VA. It was eventually followed up with a formal order in mid 1965. The intent was to field an improved sniper scope in lieu of the WWII M84 sniper scopes for use in Vietnam. It has been noted that in the mid 1990's, the CMP did sell approximately 75 of these rare mounts, and several M1D sniper rifles were sold through the lottery system that did include these rare 1 inch mounts. The history and subsequent use of this rare variant sniper rifle is documented on pages 533-536 in the book The M1 Garand by Canfield. The Weaver scope has an all blued commercial finish with the desirable post-and-crosshair reticle. The scope tube has the standard Weaver commercial markings. The rifle has a mix of WWII and early Korean War-era internal components, the standard sights. It is fitted with an all walnut stock and handguard set with a circled "P" proof in the grip area and two cartouches on the butt stock. This rifle also comes with several accessories, including a lace-on leather cheekpiece, a milled T-37 flash hider, the correct "Storm Queen" plastic scope covers, cleaning kit in sealed package, brush, case lube, and an original WW2 sling. It all comes with its original CMP paperwork and box. All items are also available for sale in our brick & mortar store and are subject to prior sale. Think long, think wrong. Payment On firearms, we typically only accept credit cards or money orders/cashier's checks.
