Description:
1851 Colt Navy-Navy Revolver. Serial No. 90166. Manufacturered 1859. 1 of 300 revolvers that were sent to Boston Navy Yard in September 1859. There were another 300 revolvers, (a total of 600) that went to the New York Navy Yard in that contract. The inspector at Boston left before the revolvers arrived, hence no inspection on bottom of grip strap. Just U.S. on left side of frame below Colts Patent. All were in the serial range of 89300-91500. The 300 revolvers that went to New York were inspected by George W. Rodgers and were marked accordingly. They were in the serial range of 89500-90000. Reference John McAuley. Very rare martial Colt Revolver. Revolver is good condition with only a small amount of original finish in protected areas. Mostly brownish-gray with some minor pitting thru-out. See pics. Mechanically fine. All numbers match including wedge. Cylinder scene is mostly there, a little light. Cylinder pins are all flattened from use. This revolver definitely saw use during the Civil War. A rare addition to a martial collection that is missing in most.
