Description:
CSA NEW ORLEANS Antique HYDE & GOODRICH TRANTER Type PERCUSSION Revolver

Circa 1861 NEW ORLEANS Sidearm!

Here we present an antique Tranter Type Revolver made in England circa the 1861 and Sold by Hyde & Goodrich of New Orleans, Louisiana. Hyde & Goodrich was a retail store on Canal Street in New Orleans operating between 1828 and 1861 whose primary business was selling fine imported goods, such as silver and including firearms made by European manufacturers—Tranter revolvers being some of their favorites.

This revolver was made in England and is Birmingham proofed on the barrel and each chamber of the cylinder. The top of the octagonal barrel is marked “MAND FOR/HYDE & GOODRICH/AGENTS N.O.”—the initials for New Orleans. “C.S.A.” is deeply stamped in the bottom of the barrel. Hyde & Goodrich likely did this after the southern states broke away. Another, perhaps slightly later, example of their marking refers to their location as “UNITED STATES SOUTH”, reflecting the separateness of the Union and Confederacy. This is a very beautiful revolver that you can imagine was likely carried by an officer during the war.

The overall condition is fine. Lovely, highly polished blue finish. Excellent action.  The grip is firm, and the checkering remains sharp. The bore is in nice shape with good rifling. This is a rare and beautiful example of the Tranter revolver that was sold by Hyde & Goodrich in New Orleans around the beginning of the American Civil War!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 4-3/4 inches.

Caliber: .44 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
