Here we present an antique Nock of London Percussion Pepperbox Pistol, made circa the 1850s in London, England by Samuel Nock. Samuel Nock was the nephew of famed innovative gunmaker Henry Nock and apprenticed under him. He was also an accomplished gunmaker and worked through the transitional period from flintlocks to percussion systems. He served as a royal gunmaker to the English monarchy from King George III in 1805 up to Queen Victoria starting in 1837. He died in 1851. While simplifying shooting (double action only), the bar hammer did preclude the inclusion of usable sights. However, this early example of a double-action pistol must have been quite a selling point. As these were considered “point and shoot” short range defensive weapons or “belly guns”, the market did not seem to object to the limitation of not having sights. This attractive pistol would have been suitable for personal defense or possibly privately purchased for military service. The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. The barrels index correctly as long as the trigger is pulled with gusto and not a slow stroke. All bores are in good shape, smooth. The fine floral engravings on the frame and hammer remain well-defined. “NOCK/LONDON” can be read on the barrel tang. The handle is firmly seated against the frame and the checkering remains sharp. Each of the barrel flutes have a Birmingham proof mark. This is a very impressive example of a British Pepperbox revolver by Nock! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .49 percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
