Description:
"

This British third model Brown Bess flintlock musket is an example of the type used by the Volunteer/Yeomanry units in the late 18th to mid-19th century. The volunteer/yeomanry units were raised and funded by the local lord/duke/earl/viscount/etc. for protection of the surrounding area. The overall length is approx. 53"". The 37"" round 76 caliber barrel has a fair bore with some roughness. The barrel, which has two Birmingham proofs with a crown between them, has a sooth brown patina. The lock, which is very lightly marked TOWER at the tail, and the cock have a smooth brown patina. The brass furniture has an even age patina. The sideplate is flat but is shaped like those of earlier guns. The stock is very good with no chips and only a very small crack next to the barrel tang. The left butt is numbered 9. The swivels and ramrod are present. The action functions correctly with the exception that half cock can be overridden by the trigger. This is a nice example of a volunteer/yeomanry musket.
