This unmarked flintlock musket generally fits the characteristics of the U.S. 1808 contract muskets. The 38"" round 68 caliber smooth bore barrel has a good dark bore. All metal is bright with light staining. There are no marks on the barrel or lock. The stock is very good with no cracks or chips and light use dents and dings. The only visible marking appears to be the stocker's initials which appear to be I/G to the rear of the triggerguard tang. While the barrel is approx. 6.5"" shorter than the U.S. contract muskets, the band spacing is appropriate for the 38"" barrel length. The swivels and ramrod are present. The action functions correctly. This is a very nice example of a commercial 1808 type musket that was made from parts that couldn't be used for a contract musket. They are much scarcer than the U.S. 1808 contract muskets.
