Description:
This is a nice solid example of a Martially Marked Remington New Model Army Revolver in .44 Caliber from the Civil War.  These were extremely popular with Union Cavalry during the War and while not as streamlined as the Colt Model 1860 Army, it was much stronger as it boasted a more rigid frame with a topstrap.  Standard 8" Octagon barrel with 6 shot cylinder, and walnut grips.  This one is in the 50,000 serial range with all matching number throughout.  It has the early adjustable German Silver Cone Sight which is dove-tailed into the front of the barrel.  These were the early ones as Remington went to a non-adjustable pinched front sight for the remainder of production.  This one is in NRA Antique Fine+ Condition showing relatively light usage with much of the original blued finish remaining.  The frame retaines 75% strong bright blue with little to no patina.  The cylinder has flaked mostly to a light grey patina with 25% bright blue remaining in a couple of patches.  The barrel also exhibits flaking with approximately 35% original blue remaining however, its better on the profiles than the top flats so it shows quite well from left and right sides. Frontstrap is grey while the backstrap and bottomstrap still show 70% original blue.   The hammer has mostly silvered out with some decent light case colors remaining.  Good screws throghout.  Nice Remington 3 line barrel address is crisp and legible.  Nice mechanics.  Bore has a few pits in front of the chambers but is still bright and shiny overall with strong lands and grooves.  Original walnut grips are in Fine Condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs.  Nice US Gov't Inspectors cartouche located on the bottom of the left panel with various sub-inspector initials on many of the metal components of this gun.  This is a nice Civil War issued gun with a lot of original finish remaining.  Antique, No FFL Required.  No sales to Chicago, NJ, NYC, DC, or Foreign Sales.  Buyer must be 21 years of age and a law abiding US Citizen.  $35.00 shipping via USPS Priority Mail.
