This pepperbox is one of the smaller pepperbox revolvers that exist, featuring 4 shots of .36 caliber ball. It was meant to be carried in the pocket of a stately gentleman or possibly in the purse or muff of a dignified lady for self-defense. Made with a bar hammer and standard trigger, these type models have been encountered with or without an integral nipple shield. While simplifying shooting (no manual cocking of the hammer), the bar hammer did preclude the inclusion of usable sights. However, this early example of a double-action only pistol must have been quite a selling point. As these were considered “point and shoot” short range defensive weapons or “belly guns”, the market did not seem to object to the limitation of not having sights. The frame, hammer, trigger guard, and pommel are engraved. The overall condition is very good. The action functions, though, as with many of these pepperboxes, the barrel rotation is a bit out of time. The bores are smooth and in good shape. Both grips have retained sharp checkering with minimal handling wear. There is a very slight split at the rear of the left side. Well-defined engravings adorn the frame, trigger guard, backstrap, and hammer! This is the only one like this we have seen! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3 inches. Caliber: .36 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
