Spectacular CUSTOM ENGRAVED WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. SN 76179. Made in 1867. Cal. 44. Spectacular custom engraved ’66 with 24-1/4″ oct bbl, full magazine, front sight with screw and a 900 yard Henry style ladder rear sight. Mounted with very nicely figured, uncheckered American walnut with straight stock & crescent buttplate. Receiver & forend cap have full coverage Nimschke style engraving by E.A. Lytle of Cody, WY and signed on bottom of receiver. Engraving consists of wonderful, intertwined foliate arabesque patterns with punch dot background and the vignette of a bull elk being attacked by two dogs on left side with the Nimschke-style mythical animal on both front side flats. Hammer is fully engraved with a demon & fish scale patterns. Engraving extends over about half of bbl surfaces with gold & platinum bands over chamber and around muzzle. Magazine band is also gold wire inlaid. Bottom of carrier is engraved with an intertwined geometric pattern and the area between the timing screws with Mr. Nimschke’s Figure-8 pattern. Lever is also engraved as is the buttplate tang. This is truly a fine example of the engraver’s art executed in great detail. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Overall retains virtually all of its crisp custom finish to both metal & wood with bright blue & crisp nickel. Wood is sound and retains all of its high gloss finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. Mr. Lytle studied the techniques and designs of Gustave Young and Louis D. Nimschke. He was named Engraver of the Year 2006 by the Academy of Western Art. This gun was owned by Ebb Tarr. In 1979 he moved to Cody and went into the hot dog business, parking his wagon next to the Irma Hotel for two years. In 1981, Ebb established Cody Shooters Supply and Cody Trading Post. He developed products for Colonial Arms, held many patents and continued working as a gunsmith and machinist.
In 1995 he began his portrayal of Buffalo Bill Cody during the Buffalo Bill Festival's chili cookoff. The following year during the Cody Centennial he was named the city's official "Buffalo Bill" and was the Grand Marshal for the Fourth of July parade.
For 12 years Ebb put forth many hours, days, weeks and months of research, dedication and commitment to the true portrayal of Buffalo Bill. He lectured on Buffalo Bill and his guns for many colleges and grade schools, put together Buffalo Bill's legendary sharp shooting exhibitions and performed for many functions, including the Special Olympics.
He performed as Buffalo Bill for television's "Amazing Race."  Ebb Tarr passed away in 2007.
