EXCELLENT AMES CIVIL WAR U.S. MODEL 1840 CAVALRY SABER DATED 1858 WITH SCABBARD. 44” o/a with 36” blade stamped on the ricasso “AMES MFG. CO./CHICOPEE/MASS” and on the obverse “US/JH/1858”. Rare date and last year contract to U.S. Govt. for the Model 1840. Only 500 made dated 1858. 100% original and in superb condition with excellent blade, all the original grip wrap and wire and scabbard with wonderful original dark patina. Exceptional and rare.
