This pre war Francotte 16g was imported by Paul Jaeger after it was engraved by Master engraver Emil Willig. The varied styles and depth of the scrolls, the gold inlay and carvings, all wonderful examples of the near perfection of Emil Willig's handwork are evident here. There is no part of the receiver of this beautiful shotgun that is not covered by intricate scrollwork that is as perfect as you will ever see. You can almost see Willig at his workbench with the constant tapping of the of the engraving hammer against the chisel and the endless turning, this way and that, of the engraver's vise. The golden pheasants flushed in the forest by the attentive pointer, the gold waterfowl coming out of the grassy pond, the golden grouse catching air as they settle to the ground. These scenes are as realistic as a photograph. The depth of the scrollwork is doubled when you check the top of the breechface, the bas-relief is evident here. The perfect scrolls cut into the stock and fore end are deep and clean. The original owner's initials are set in gold on triggerguard, looks like KAA. The pictures don't do the gun justice, but they are close. The stock has beautiful feathering, a couple of very minor dings, but no cracks or other damage, This shotgun comes with a fitted leather case. You will be proud to have this fine firearm in your collection. $150 shipping, 3% surcharge for using a CC. SOLD |
