Description: Well used grease horns in original condition. Blacksmith-made chain and collars. Carved wood stoppers (soaked with oil) and original wooden plugs. Note the serious wear on the chains. These were hooked to the outside of the conestoga wagons and filled with any extra grease from cooking to animal fat then poured into the wooden hubs on the wheels as they did not have bearings. A must for every wagon on the Oregon trail where these were said to have been used. Horns 15", Chain 20". SOLD |
