Listing a old Whitney-Kennedy rifle , a round , 24" barrel , loop lever ,in the popular 38/40 cartridge. Rifle has what I believe are the original front and rear open sights. Serial number S140, according to Dale Olsen's book puts the Mfg date as 1883. Rifle functions fine , bore is okay for a 138 year old rifle. I've fired it more than once with Cowboy loads of course . She's old, maybe have her checked out if you do buy it to shoot. I ran across a fella that had torn down a old house up in northern Wisconsin a few years ago and this old gal was inside of a wall. Who knows the story ! I guess stranger things have happen. The 38/40's weren't as popular and I think the round barreled version are scarce as well. I believe only 23 k Whitney's total were made before Winchester bought them up and closed the doors. Heavy built rifles they were. The stock appears to maybe been hand made, like it was scraped with a knife. I only used steel wool and oil to clean up the metal a little , the insides are pretty decent. If your interested in it for historical purposes or to fix it up or part it out , these are tough to come by. She's an antique so to your door,insured and shipped USPS. If you don't care for it , return it and I'll refund your money. Just don't keep any parts out of it , I heard the other day that happened to a fella. Can't imagine , but there's all kinds out there.
