Description:
Winchester model 54 in 30-06 caliber. Overall, I'd put this example at the top end of the user category. Virtually all of the original rust blue remains and the bore is perfect. Common on 54s, the bottom metal has flaked. 92% of the original wood finish remains with only minor handling marks. No rear bridge holes have been drilled. It was born and remains with the original Lyman 48 peep sight. The barrel channel has not been altered. The previous owner put wax on the inside that can easily be removed with a toothpick or similar tool. It does have an old repaired crack along the right side ( seen in pictures 11 and 14). The gent that traded it to me acquired it in 1961. He repaired the crack and then burned his initials under the butt plate. He has used it virtually every year since to hunt deer and elk. This rifle has not been shot much at all and really has a very nice look. The previous owner states it is very accurate with factory 180 grain ammo.
