Description:
"Model 1855 U.S. percussion rifle-musket with South Carolina militia markings. Harpers Ferry Armory manufactured Model 1855, made in 1859. It has the desirable patchbox and iron forearm tip, which were added in 1859. Overall length is approximately 56". The 40" round .58 caliber barrel has a good bore with strong rifling. All metal is a smooth gray with areas of brown patina. The stock is very good with no cracks, and has a little wood loss along the ramrod channel and upper tang. Two inspector’s cartouches are readily visible. Additionally, the left side of the butt is marked “SCM" in ½" block letters. This is repeated on the heel of the butt. The rack number “49" is above that. The swivels and cleaning rod are present. The spare nipple is in the patch box. The Maynard tape priming parts are present and operates correctly. The barrel is dated “1859" with a clean “V"/ “P"/ eagle on the left flat. The lock is marked “U.S. / Harpers Ferry" at the front and “1859" at the rear. The Maynard tape primer door has an exceptionally nice eagle stamp. This is a very nice 1859 dated Model 1855 with the added benefit of South Carolina militia markings. Don’t miss this one!
