One of a 300 gun shipment shipped to the Govt. of Canada, Dept of Military & Defense, c/o Wesley Allison in Waddington, NY. Sept. 29th 1914 for further shipment on to Canada for use by the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in the early stages of WW1 in order to circumvent the outright sale of weapons to the UK which at the time was prohibited. It has NO British proofs (correct) due to the urgency of the purchase. Many of these were carried by CEF officer's during the Battle of the Somme. Does have all the correct Colt proofs which are correct and crisp despite the areas of slight salt and pepper over the brilliant Colt factory blue which stands at 70% overall. Some rust mixed with crud in the recesses dictate some futher TLC to clean thouroughly but should clean up well. Reluctant to put too mcyh elbow grease into it with so much well earned patina. Original walnut grips with finger grooves carved out of left flat. Correct early sights. Correct blue half dipped magazine with lanyard ring. Colt research letter sent for attests to it's Canadian destination. Comes with Audley Safety Holster Co. quick draw brown leather holster so marked in extra nice condition with perfect stitching and tension still on internal spring that holds gun in place(few hundred dollars by itself). From local estate just outside of D.C. where so many military families retired to. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Handgun Caliber: .45 ACP (.45 Auto) |
