Nicely Engraved 12 Gauge English Made Shotgun
Here we present an antique Thomas Naylor English Double Barrel Side x Side Underlever Hammer Shotgun, manufactured circa the late1860s in Sheffield, England. Naylor is listed as an active gunmaker circa 1847 through 1868. England and Belgium were the epicenter for European gunmaking all the way through the turn of the century. This is an English fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality. This double barrel rotary underlever hammer gun would have been used primarily for putting game on the table or defending one’s property.
The overall condition is good. The action is strong. The bores are in good shape. Traditional floral designs adorn the lock and frame. The barrel finish has matured to a dark brown patina. The stock is solid all around with a well-defined grain pattern! The undersides of the barrels are proofed marked “13” & “14”. Here is an interesting English shotgun to collect and display!
