TEXAS SHIPPED SINGLE ACTION ARMY, .45 COLT, 4 3/4" BARREL, #148XXX, MADE 1892, WITH FACTORY LETTER AND INFO. The Colt factory letter indicates that this revolver was shipped to Robert, Willis & Taylor Company, Sherman, Texas on December 14, 1892. Along with the factory letter is thick binder of information gathered by a previous owner concerning Sherman, Texas, photos of Robert, Willis & Taylor Co. building, 1893 Sherman, Texas lawmen etc. Sherman, Texas is located in the northern part of Texas almost on the Oklahoma border- certainly a Wild West location in 1892! This revolver in an attractive uncleaned gray/brown patina with some aged blue in the more protected areas. The bore is a little dark, but about excellent and the action is tight with 4 clicks to the hammer. The front sight has not been altered and the side frame screws are fine as are the markings, including the correct two line barrel address. At some time in the past the eagle grips were replaced with excellent fitting later style Colt hard rubber grips. Also, the left side of the barrel has been hand-stamped "45 COLT" in tiny letters/numerals- could probably be removed. This is a really fascinating, historical Single Action .45 from a time and place of much frontier violence.
