Here we present an antique Remington-Lee Model 1885 Bolt Action Rifle, manufactured circa 1887 in Ilion, New York with a production run between 1879 and 1892 and chambered in .43 Spanish (11.15×58mmR). It first appeared in 1879, manufactured by the Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Company. Remington took over production in 1885 and produced copies in .45-70 GOVT. Arguably the most modern rifle in the world until the introduction of the 8 mm smokeless powder using Lebel M1886 rifle, the Lee utilized the first successful detachable box magazine, unlike the Lebel which still used a tube magazine. This rifle, also known as the M1885 Lee and the Navy M1885 is a bolt action, box magazine repeating rifle designed by James Paris Lee.
The action is strong. The bore is bright with nice rifling. “205” is stamped near the butt plate tang on the comb. The stock is dark like the steel. Lots of signs of handling and weathering. The magazine is absent.
