This carbine, with sling ring and bar, has Belgian proofs and is dated 1863 on the bolster. The overall length is approx. 34.75"". The 19.75"" round 75 caliber barrel has a smooth dark bore with some roughness. All the metal is bright with light staining. There is a 7 and a few other mostly unreadable words or letters on the barrel behind the proofs. The brass forend, trigger guard, and butt plate are good. The captured ramrod and sling bar and ring are present. The back action lock functions correctly with the exception that half cock can be released with a trigger pull. The stock is fair with cracks on each side of the action and at the stock's toe, a couple of chips at the butt plate tang, two holes on the left side of the butt where something was probably mounted, and numerous usage dents and dings. The previous owner listed this carbine as Mexican-used but we are unable to confirm this.
