Description:
This is an excellent example of an early 1943 WWII M1 Carbine, produced by the National Postal Meter Company (NMP).  That certainly saw service in WW2.  Was refurbished at the Government Arsenal, in Agusta.GA. (AA). And converted to the M1A1 Model, in the early 50’s.  Carbines being sent to Government Arsenals after the Korean war for refurbishing, were not unusual.  However, not that many Postal Meter Carbines were produced (6.8% of the total production).  And even fewer were refurbished to M1A1’s.  So, that is a little unusual !   It has the typical post war upgrades, most of the metal retains its original finish.  And the stock and handguard match in color and wear.
The paratrooper stock has the original GI metal folding buttplate with the correct cast-in part number of "B257614".  With the original AA updated, folding metal frame and leather cheek piece.
The leather is in really good shape.  The handguard, pistol grip and forend /stock assembly, show age appropriate small dings and ware. There are no gashes, deep dents, chips, painted numbers, etc.  Bayonet with Scabbard Markek US M8A1 with VP Co, underneith, included. The stock is the original 1943 "high-wood" stock that has been cut to "low wood" as were all reworks.  The left side of the stock shows the Augusta Arsenal rework stamp, A.A. Wih an i or H inspectors mark?  Followed with what looks like there an “O”?
As were all refurbished Carbines.
The rear flip sight has been replaced with a post war adjustable sight.  And the front barrel band updated with the later, type 3. With integral bayonet lug band added.  The magazine catch was upgraded at some point to the later "M" stamped variation of mid-1944. The parkerized finish is in excellent condition.  Had it inspected a couple of times. And was told, all other parts are 1943
NPM produced.
It was purchased in July 1974.  And  fired to confirm reliable operation. And safety. No issues.
Never fired after purchase. And it was reasonably accurate. The metal was taken out of the wood, inspected, cleaned and lubricated for long term storage. In 2002.  And only lightly cleaned and oil by me, since. Some oil build up in the tight areas. Not big on over cleaning.  Never out of a humidity and temperature controlled envrionment sense purchased. Given what is going on. This might be a real good time to obtain a historic WW2 classic?
Applies to all listings:
In 2002, the entire collection was professionally removed from wood and inspected for condition. Then cleaned, lubricated and reassembled.  By a very experienced and professional Gunsmith.   All received a clean bill of health from a condition stand point. Better than appropriate for the age.
They have only been lightly cleaned and oiled by me. Before and since.  The entire collection has never out of a temperature-humidity, controlled environment. Since the purchased date. Most post 1920 guns have been fired by a qualified gunsmith or range master.  For reliability, functionality and safety confirmation.  I have fired a few.  Limited to a total of <200 rounds.
Guns that are equipped for them, have as-issued correct Bayonet and Scabbards, in very good condition. Where applicable: Most have (sure looks like) as issued: Slings, clips and / or removable magazines. And some higher Mag loads, are available. All have the expected stampings and / or cartouches.  Some Government Arsenal Reconditions are included. And if so?  There are photos of the clear markings of this reconditioning. Again, per individual listing.  Other than Arsenal Rebuilds.
There are no known replacement or OEM parts or accessories in this collection.
All firearms are offered as collector’s items only.  Seller does not accept responsibility as to the shooting safety or reliability of any firearm.  A thorough inspection. should be conducted by an experienced, reliable gunsmith / rangemaster Before even considering firing any gun.
