This is a fine example of .22 Colt Open Top pistol from the post Civil War era. It is in sound condition and exceptionally attractive. The author of the definitive book on Colt Open Top .22’s, Robert Swartz, and an expert on antiquarian engraving, contacted me after seeing this gun the day it was listed. He indicated that the engraving was done by Nimschke, and he included a descriptive photo of Nimschke’s work as a reference. Mr. Swartz’s book, now in its second printing, is called Colt’s Firearms At The Brink, and is a fascinating and surprising reference work on the Colt Open Top .22, the smallest, yet
one of the most important guns Colt ever made. His email is discovercolt. This is a rather excellent black powder Colt 1871 Open Top .22rf short revolver. In the Hartley & Graham Factory engraved order of 1888. Very solid and very clean over all. Serial #71306. Grips in excellent condition. An extremely good looking pistol and an important part of the Colt line up following the Civil War. As nice as ever seen! Please email any questions!
