Description:

ANTEBELLUM Antique COLT Model 1851 NAVY Revolver

“U.S.” Marked Made in 1857

Here we present an antique Colt 1851 Navy Revolver, made in 1857 in Hartford, Connecticut. The 1851 Navy was one of Colt’s most famous and successful lines, reaching a production total of 257,348 from 1850 to 1873 (right up to the time of SAA production) from both Hartford and London factories. From Hartford alone, 185,000 were made by the end of the American Civil War. Many of these saw service during the conflict on both sides. There were some military purchases and lots of private purchases by soldiers going off to war. In addition, the Model 1851 was a favorite of “Wild Bill” Hickok, who carried two of these most famously in his red sash.

The makers mark is on the top of the barrel; “ADDRESS COL. SAM COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA”.  The left side of the frame is marked with both “COLTS PATENT/U.S.” and “36CAL”.

The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a salt and pepper patina. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match with the exception of the cylinder, which is 1502 numbers earlier. The cylinder scene maintains a good cylinder scene and matches the patina of the rest of the gun, leading us to believe it has been with the gun for the majority of its life. The grips are in good shape. The bore is dark and dusty with sharp rifling and should clean up well. The action on this revolver is excellent. Here is a nice Colt 1851 Navy that predated the Civil War and saw use all the way through!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 7-1/2 inches.
