1886 EXTRA LIGHT .33 WCF CALIBER SOLID FRAME RIFLE WITH SCARCE FULL MAGAZINE, #141XXX, MADE 1906. Standard rifles in .33 caliber had 24" lightweight round barrels and half magazines and shotgun butts. Full magazines were provided on request. This rifle which came out of Arizona shows normal use, but no abuse. The receiver is mostly gray with traces of blue in the most protected small areas and shows no signs of cleaning. There is one very small ding in the bottom of the receiver ahead of the lever that is insignificant. The bolt shows good blue as does the magazine and the bottom protected portion of the barrel. The nickel steel marked barrel shows some thinning blue around the rear portion of the barrel and around the front sight with the balance an aged gray. The stock and forearm show only light handling with tight wood to metal fit and an un-chipped hard rubber Winchester embossed butt plate. Action is tight, safety notch in the hammer holds well and the bore is excellent if slightly dark. All markings are sharp and clear. Original buckhorn rear sight matched with a Marble No.2 blade/bead front sight fitted in the factory dovetail in the short ramp. The .33 WCF was the only purely smokeless powder round made expressly for the Model '86 and is simply the great .45-70 case necked down to accept .338" bullets. It was considered a very powerful cartridge in its day.
