Description:
SPF Time to reduce my gun collection -- so I'm offering a Holiday Special price of $2500 until December 15. SPF For sale is a Westley Richard percussion double barrel shotgun made 1846 s/n 6001. Westley Richards is among the best English makers. I grade this gun fine to excellent.  The quality of the locks and lock mortises is superb. CNC machining cannot improve upon, or possibly even equal, the craftsmanship of the hand-made and fitted locks and hand carved mortises. The muzzleloader enthusiast can enjoy an English Best Gun at a fraction of the cost of a breechloader. It is in original condition and has not been restored. A copy of the Westley Richards ledger sheet is included. The scroll engraving is sharp. The locks and trigger pulls are crisp. The right trigger pull is 5 lb. 11oz and the left pull 6 lb. I replaced the original nipples (included) to save them from damage with new nipples. The 14 gauge bores are smooth with scattered patches of light pitting.  The bores are bright; they shine when lighted from the breech. The photos show the muzzle of the left and right bore illuminated by a pen light from the breech. The exterior of the 26 ½’ barrels is excellent with a strong Damascus pattern. The length is uncommon for guns of this era, but there is no sign the barrels were shortened. The screw-tip ramrod is in excellent shape. The stock is well marbled and in excellent condition overall with a few minor nicks near the toe. The left side of the forend is damaged as shown in the photo. The checkering is sharp. The gun weighs 6.9 pounds according to my bathroom scale. The stock dimensions are modern: LOP 14 ½”, DAC 1 ½”, DAH 2. This is a delightful gun it handles well, shoots where I look, and the ignition is fast and positive.  Shipping and insurance is $50 to CONUS only. Payment is by postal money order or cashiers check. The gun is subject to sale locally and on other sites. For more information and/or photos contact me. Email with questions.
