Description:
Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are purely proud to offer this seldom seen Winchester model 1907 decked out in deluxe trim. While mostly overlooked by collectors, this model was the most popular of the early "self loading" Winchesters. Most were plain Jane workhorse guns, and to find a special order deluxe is exceedingly rare. What makes this gun even more desirable is that only the early deluxe versions had a factory grip cap. Also, like the lever guns, the model designation changed from 1907 to 07. The top tang of this first year produced rifle is clearly marked "Model 1907 S.L.". Made in the tear of our Lord 1906, it is hard to believe this beauty is 115 years old. The original blue is mostly deep and rich, with some thinning and drifting to patina. The stampings are clear and sharp. The highly figured checkered walnut is gorgeous, with some light compressions and handling marks. The bore of the 20 inch barrel is very bright, with great rifling and a few spots that may disappear with a good cleaning. The icing on the cake is a darling Lyman folding peep sight with hard to find double apertures and a locking lever. The design of this autoloader is remarkable. The forward facing plunger opens the bolt, there is a cross bolt safety, and the takedown knob is held tight by a spring loaded button. She takes down in less than 10 seconds, and locks up tight again just as fast. The locking ring on the barrel in front of the forend cap is easy to remove and allows disassembly. Used in WWI by the US, Russia, France, and Great Britain, it was chosen for its compact size and hard hitting bullets. It is about the size of an M1 carbine, yet has the energy of a 30-30. It was also adopted by law enforcement. If you are the Winchester collector that thought you one of everything, this gun may give you cause to pause and reconsider. I have searched the market, and there are no other for sale anywhere. Even the Winchester book, chock full of every deluxe model Winchester ever made, has nothing like this one photographed. If you have been looking for the right Winchester Self Loading, but want the added clout of a verified deluxe, then look no further.
