Description:
This highly accurized M1 Garand National Match was built in 1979 by the legendary Glenn Nelson in Columbus Ga. My Dad special ordered it as the ultimate competition rifle. He bought it through Springfield Armory Inc, who in turn contracted with Nelson to build it.
This beautiful rifle is almost entirely USGI parts including Barrel, Receiver, op-rod, and stock. The action is thoroughly bedded in the stock with the brown "Bisonite" compound used by Nelson. The stock is beautifully refinished, only a faint ghost of the original cartouche remains.
The receiver is stamped with serial # 358 which SAI re-serialized, as they did on the early M1 rifles, until the BATF told them to stop that practice and begin with serial # 7,000,000. This is NOT a re-weld or cast receiver!
the NM rear sight is marked ENREX NM/2A, which is the NM sight for the M-14 NM rifles. Dad made this upgrade, but I do have the original sight, not marked NM.
Dad fired only match grade ammo through it, and used it only in 2 competitions before it was stored away for the next 40 years.
it is fitted with a nice leather competition sling from Brownells.
