Description:
                                               Second-Model 1893 - 7MM Spanish Mauser.
The Spanish M1893 is commonly referred to as the "Spanish Mauser". Though the model was adopted by other countries.  The M1893 was based on the experimental M1892 rifle, which Paul Mauser developed for the Spanish. This rifle is very good condition and I think that the photos confirm this?  Purchased in 1969, it has onlybeen fired by a gunsmith to confirm saftey and functionality. Internet searches of the serial number and stampings, indicate that it is a 1899 Spanish Production.
Why I think that this rifle is important in the history of American Military Firearms
During the Spanish-American War, on July 1st, 1898 there was an engagement that would turn out to be a turning point in both U.S. military history and the development of modern, military small arms.
During the American assault on the strategic Cuban city of Santiago, 750 Spanish troops defended positions on San Juan and Kettle hills. The American force consisted of 6,600 soldiers.  And most of them were regulars, armed with the then-new smokeless-powder Krag-Jorgensen rifle as supported by artillery and gatling gun fire.
When the battle was over and the dust settled, the Americans realized that they had taken more than 1400 (20%) casualties. To have these many losses from an inferior force was unacceptable. So, an Army Board of Investigation was commissioned to figure out how what happened?  And they determined that the superior fire power of the Mauser was the primary reason.  This resulted in a recommendation that the Krag should be replaced, and a search for an updated rifle was organized.   And by 1903, America adopted the M1903 Springfield, which copied the 1898 Mauser's bolt action and magazine loading systems. As well as a higher-velocity .30 caliber .30-03 cartridge.  Which was soon replaced by the more effective .30-06 Springfield bullet. This rifle had a major impact on American Military Combat rifles of the last century. And that’s why this 1893 Mauser is the only non-US Military Rifle in this Collection.
Applies to all listings:
In 2002, the entire collection was professionally removed from wood and inspected for condition. Then cleaned, lubricated and reassembled.  By a very experienced and professional Gunsmith.   All received a clean bill of health from a condition stand point. Better than appropriate for the age.
They have only been lightly cleaned and oiled by me. Before and since.  The entire collection has never out of a temperature-humidity, controlled environment. Since the purchased date. Most post 1920 guns have been fired by a qualified gunsmith or range master.  For reliability, functionality and safety confirmation.  I have fired a few.  Limited to a total of <200 rounds.
Guns that are equipped for them, have as-issued correct Bayonet and Scabbards, in very good condition. Where applicable: Most have (sure looks like) as issued: Slings, clips and / or removable magazines. And some higher Mag loads, are available. All have the expected stampings and / or cartouches.  Some Government Arsenal Reconditions are included. And if so?  There are photos of the clear markings of this reconditioning. Again, per individual listing.  Other than Arsenal Rebuilds.
